FROM THIS

TO THIS

and this week's cake innovation LOL!: CARAMELCHOCO PECAN CUSTARD CAKE

All these cakes were baked from scratch, no mix were used. I mix and match my mom's recipes with my own. If you notice, the super chocolate mallows overload and crema de fruta were sliced (na hanggang ngayon eh walang umaamin), before I could even take photos. But this Sunday's cake remained untouched for 4 hours. I wonder why? Don't bother asking me for recipes as some of them I forgot what I put na, sobrang imbento talaga hahaha! And some are not as delicious as they seem to be in the photos LOL!

in circles (weekend snapshotS #4)

  • Mar. 26th, 2008 at 1:03 AM
You know what they say about living here? "hinahabol parati ang oras sa Amerika!" I don't believe that famous quote until this week. Oh my goodness, hubby and I have been running in circles. We have started ticking off some numbers in our long TO DO LIST. Errands, Errands. Decisions decisions every single day. And for the 1st time in many months, I miss my son's yaya chona. Imagine a son throwing a huge tantrums in a bank? I couldn't blame him because the bank are not for kids and the banker was just so slow attending to his parents. "Dyosko po! Ke hirap ng walang mapagiwanan sa bata while you attend to some important things." As for my school updates, I was supposed to take up only 1 subject this spring classes but I was required to take 2! But no complains, really. Ika nga ni Tin, think long-term! We are Tin, that's keeping us strong. Kung kaya nila, kaya natin hehe!

So anyways, that's the reason why I bombarded you with opps and not so much of personal updates. Really busy. Opps are priorities. Bloghopping will have to wait. My Apologies. Kung pwede lang hatiin ang katawan, naku matagal ng maraming em at maraming titan hahaha! Here's something to compensate my lack of updates. Titan and I thought that our Easter day was a premonition of the busy weeks ahead of us. We had a good family moment. Not thinking that the coming weekends even Sundays, will be working days for us both at the homefront and the unhomefront.

I began the Easter by baking my own version of SUPER chocolate mallows overload, I was supposed to bring it to Ethan's Sunday school classmates but before we even got out of the house, nabawasan na ng isang slice! Sinong salarin? Walang umaamin.

Then we went off to church. Ethan was as usual sitting behavely on his seat. My son really loves going to church, he is most behaved when he is attending mass. If you know my son, you would know why I am so proud of him acting really behaved on church masses. My friends and family can attest to how likot, restless, dennis the menace copycat, pilyo, daldal, he can, but not in church. He just knows that the church is a special place. Then after that, we let Ethan play on the school playground and had a picnic lunch. It was really an easy breezy day, we were able to unwind. After the long day, we went home and finished packing the winter clothes as well as some things we needed to box for the apartment move. Then we had dinner with the clan. As usual, sira ang diet heheh. Here's some of the pictures on the Easter that was. I hope you all had a good one!

cooking what-have-yous

  • Jan. 7th, 2008 at 8:13 PM
I have been into cooking for as long as I can remember since I practically grew up helping in my mom's baking and catering business. My list of cooking gadgets and tools are just sooo long that I have become more matured in choosing the best and right and most efficient cooking necessities. As I became a mom and wife, my cooking needs change and I wouldn't waste my bucks and time for unreliable and unefficient pots, pans and cookers. I wanted to have an easy life in the kitchen while planning the best dishes for the week!

I have been shopping online on the best crock pots and slow cookers but of course I cannot rely purely on brands alone. I need to know the best pots and pans from the experts and from those who bought it through experience. I chanced upon this site which gives honest and reliable reviews on the best pots and cookers! They rank their reviews with these categories: Buy with confidence, Might meet your needs, Proceed with caution and not recommended. It is really helpful as I shop online and I can ask as many questions as I want. Isn't it great, a review site on cooking pots and pans! And so I thought only tech gadgets needs reviewing.

A DETOUR.

  • Dec. 6th, 2007 at 4:53 PM
Due to insistent public demand for paidblogging, LOL! I made a detour HERE. If you're bored reading about my personal life in this site, you can direct yourself in my new detour blogsite. Although this site will still be my main blog, the detour site will be a totally different blog, a different approach. I made some cross-postings and will made more cross-postings for important entries, but basically THIS DETOUR will be more about good finds both in the net and mall shopping, my make-up passion what-have-yous, gadgets obsessions, awesome inventions and memes, tags and awards will all be posted there, and there will be no entry about my life and my family. Nothing really personal, all for the sake of making a blog with random discoveries. See you all there and don't leave me here as well. toodles!

A Thanksgiving Entry

  • Dec. 1st, 2007 at 3:58 PM
My very 1st Thanksgiving celebration went really great. With families and some cooking to do, it was just perfect! I woke up really early as I was in-charge to cook 2 of the main dishes: Seafood Paella and of course my specialty, Tom Yum! It's a tough job as I will cook for 5 extended families of Titan, the last count was 21 people! I never cooked for that many people in my entire cuisine life. They were all excited as this would be the 1st time they would have a non-american meal in their thanksgiving table. Most of the dishes they usually cook were American dishes as Thanksgiving are for Americans daw! labo! Anyhow, tita babes drove me to the nearest Asian market as we forgot to buy tomato paste for my Paella the day before. Ethan and Titan were still asleep so I had a good "ME" time for the 1st time. Oh how I love Virginia, it was the very 1st time I get to appreciate what scenery I see on the rode. Tita was telling me that sometimes when she gets homesick, she would just drive around and get in touch with nature, of course the manicured loans and trees are sooo sooo far from what we have back home in Pinas.

Anyways, going back, as soon we returned home I started my butt off in the kitchen as these 2 dishes are very mabusisi. Only to find out that Ethan was crying and looking for me, so I head up the room and pass him on to his baba. Tita babes and I started cooking at 11noon and finished about 6 dishes in a span of 4 hours, just in time when the Shorts Family were all hungry and ready to feast. Everyone else came and we were ready by 4pm for our thanksgiving prayer. We chatted and played with the kids, watched a couple of DVDs and had some photo ops. During the mini chat with the titas, I found out that my favorite tutor back in gradeschool is their 1st cousin and is now in Ohio! And my suitor in Highschool whom I almost chose to be my Prom date over Titan is their 2nd cousin! How small the world really is! We were all done by around 8pm and had to put Ethan to sleep as his Dad is soo excited to line up for the BIG BLACK FRIDAY SALE! The rest of the oldies stayed late watching more dvds over some wine. Here are some photos I took from my cam, still waiting for titan's cousin Candace to email the whole thing as I was too busy feeding Ethan and myself LOL:;

finally a decent picture of us 3!

on tops and hails

SHOPPING HAVEN
Somebody must stop me from visiting those outlets and shopping centers here!!!

Who says that Bangkok is their shopping haven, wait till they reach US. Bangkok's night market and shopping centers used to be my #1 shopping haven and thought that I would be able to save my pocket money here for an apple laptop and would definitely say no to shopping! But oh my oh my! As soon as I set foot on the outlets (especially the ones in Vegas), I'm lost and forgot all about my budget.

I'm a sucker for tops, blouses, jackets etc... I wouldn't want to repeat the same blouses if I have a choice! So you could just imagine me panicking and grabbing all the cutesy stuff in Ross dress for less, Charlotte Russe, Forever 21, H&M, Aeropostale, Hollister, Abercrombie, American Eagle Outfitter and drools on Bebe, Macy's, JCPenney and Bloomingdales and of course the more popular brands in the Outlets: Children's Place, CK, Ann Taylor, Ralph, Coach, Vans, Nike, Famous Footwear and the likes, my Gosh! Not to mention my love for cute undies and pjs so a visit to Victoria's Secret is also a must and my passion for make-up so there goes MY Sephora! I realized today that I doubled our luggages, I hope I don't get overluggage on our domestic flight this weekend!

My 1st stop was Walmart, I was just supposed to buy toiletries for myself and ethan but ended up reaching my shopping budget for my whole stay here in the west! Blame it on Covergirl, Loreal and Maybelline make-up and herbal essenses and ethan's toys! Then there goes a visit to Tjmaxx, Marshalls and Target, I swear you could leave me in those places for a week!

Hay naku talaga!
Though, honestly, it's much much cheaper to shop here than in the Philippines, now I know why flight attendants end up selling px goods because one can really profit from shopping here and selling it there. Hmmm, gawin ko ngang negosyo. This evening, my brother was asking me if I wanted to go out tomorrow to do my last minute shopping and I loudly declined hahaha! Ubos na pera ko!

IT'S HAILING IN OUR BACKYARD
Last October 29 at around 4:20 pm, I was whipping some recipe in the kitchen when I started hearing loud sounds which seemed to me that huge rocks were being thrown at our roof! My brother shouted from his room "naghehail na", Ethan and I immediately got out and saw in the poolside that it was indeed hailing, it was raining ice cubes! I took a video but realized that I cannot post it coz ethan had no undies at that time hahhaah, nagwiwi kasi, he forgot to pull up his shorts.

It's getting colder and colder here, naku ano pa kaya sa VA, ginawin pa naman ako lately. This will be my very 1st white christmas and I'm all excited! Winter outfits are in order =P. Here are photos of the hail aftermath in our poolside.

chow before i say ciao manila!

  • Sep. 16th, 2007 at 10:08 PM

My mom said i'm cramming--cramming to be a knowledgeable cook and baker like her haha. Maybe she's right!

Titan requested for only 2 things to do/bring when I leave for US: 1)Ethan, of course and 2)learn how to cook my mom's tom yum series and seafood paella! You see, my husband is the biggest fan of my mom when it comes to her palatable dishes and pastries. When he used to have provincial assignments,  he would call in advance if he'd be coming over the weekend. Naku busing busy na si mommy in preparing my husband's favorites from the main dish down to titan's favorite dessert, brazo de mercedes, all home-made! Alagang alaga talaga! Maybe he married me thinking that I can cook and bake as good as her LOL. I know how to cook and I'm a seasonal pastry chef, but when it comes to household chores, cooking only comes next to cleaning as my favorite household activity.

I grew up making delivery receipts on wedding/birthday cakes, pastries, catering orders etc... Sabi nga ng mommy ko ka-age ko ang baking/food business niya. Let me refresh your memory, she made our wedding cake, from the fondant down to the gumpaste flowers.

here's a glimpse of our 2003 wedding cake

As much as I love food, I can't be the best cook and baker because I have a very big appetite for almost anything that is edible, in short matakaw! Everything seems to be masarap lalo na pag nagkecrave ako hahah! A good cook and baker should have a very distinguishing tastebuds! Since the day I quit my day job, I've been into baking and cooking. I have tried out mom's recipes to the point that I baked, put icing on and decorated Ethan's 2nd birthday cake.
pwede na ba?

Last week, I was surprised to see a hardbound notebook filled with my mom's recipes she manually written with a love note: To my daughter love, mommy.  Yun pala ang pinagkakaabalahan niya all these time, she kept it all along to me.  Aww natouched talaga ako! I'm beginning to miss her.

So whenever I don't have shoots or weddings, you can see me in our kitchen attending my one-on-one refresher's lessons with my mom.  Whipping some cheesecake, muffins, crepes and puffs or trying out my mom's exotic dishes.

Last sunday, I was craving for cheese cupcakes!  Buti na lang may ingredients sa bahay, so in 30 minutes, voila! Here are some of the 36 cheese cupcakes I baked fresh from our oven, waiting for my brother and Ethan to munch!  I gave some to my cutee twins neighbors (2 pairs of identical girls twins, magkakapatid ang apat!), they love it! I'm selling it now for P8 each =P.

Then I saw some prawns in our fridge and so I cooked tom yum goong(king prawn soup with chilli and lime) for sunday lunch. I swear it was a big hit but the picture shows otherwise hahah!

Next project tom kha gai (chicken and coconut soup) and sotanghon salad the thai way. =) For desserts, revel bars. Mia, I promise to give you the whole pan! haha. ciao!

(message me if you want the recipes)
